Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School

Environmental Stem for a Better Future (2018-2019)

Roosevelt Elementary School, is located on the border of Indio and Coachella. 100% of our students live at or below the poverty level, residing in subsidized housing units or living at one of two local homeless shelters near the school. Currently we have no students enrolled in school, that have parents who have earned a college degree. The generational poverty cycle, is prevalent in our school community. Roosevelt has made a commitment to create a strong educational foundation for our students, promote academic successes, and provide them with opportunities that will lead them on a path towards higher education endeavors. With this project, we will use the funds to purchase Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Kits for each grade level, that have a focus on environmental impact. Each kits contains modules that provide students with high interest, engaging, educational experiences that will help our students learn skills through real world experiences and foster their interest in academic learning and higher education pursuits, while learning about taking care of our environment and the planet, in which we live. By incorporating Environmental Sustainability, through Science, Technology, Math, and Engineering (STEM) curriculum, into our regular instruction, students will be able to engage curriculum, that provides them in 21st Century Skills and promote interest in academic success and higher education possibilities.
