Reaching the Mountains Above Us- Idyllwild Nature Center Field Trips (2026-2027)

Our field trip is available to all students in Riverside County. However, we wanted to make a special effort to reach out to children in the Coachella Valley since they look at this great mountain every day. The field trip is designed for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders, providing essential lessons to meet California State standards in Social Studies and the Sciences. Our program consists of 4 stations: Cahuilla history and daily life; Microscopes and learning the tools of a scientist; Animal Biodiversity of the Forest; and lastly, Plants in the ecosystems and how they thrive. The trip includes hands-on experiences, meeting animal ambassadors, walking our beautiful nature trail, and a takeaway gift to reinforce the lessons they learned. It is clear the impact is great, and we are so grateful to give children the chance to see a place they may never have experienced.

Our Roots Run Far (2025-2026)

Idyllwild Nature Center has revamped its field trip to create a stronger curriculum fitting California Standards for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade children. The field trip is designed to adjust depending on the grade and standards being taught. We provide a great breadth of education opportunities highlighting: indigenous people, the origins of their culture, and their use of natural resources; biodiversity and the blending of ecosystems and how such environments thrive; the carbon cycle, photosynthesis, fire ecology, geologic processes, and environment repopulation and regeneration; human impact on environment; and lastly, the immersive experience of an ecologist -- using the tools of a scientist and working with them throughout their trip.
